Castle Supporting the Community - Update

School Council representatives delivered all the produce collected at school to West Berkshire Food Bank. It was an amazing trip for all. And the students were able to learn lots about the food bank and how it works and who the food is collected for. Also, the students helped unload and stack into crates. They also went through and looked at all the places where the food is stored and how they put it into date order. They went to the packing room so they could see how it is put in the boxes for each of the families. We learnt that each family member received one box for a family of four. They will receive four boxes of food items for the week, including toiletries. Whilst there, we were also saddened to hear that the food bank itself has received 44% fewer contributions than last year. Madison was very quick to point this out and could see how different it seemed to last year and how many fewer food items there were, especially in the pasta room. Ryland, Madison and Ruby particularly were very keen to know how else we can support the food bank within our community. Whilst travelling back on the bus, they came up with ideas for making money through fundraising and maybe collecting food items at another time during the year. As a school, we also offered to help decorate the Easter and Christmas bags which go out with treats for families with children. All were keen to help do this. We have been informed by West Berkshire Food Bank that your donations weighed in at 133.4 kgs. That is the equivalent of 280 meals for local residents who are having a really difficult time. Thanks to all
